10. Pollution. Hygiene. Safety

We will only deal here with the problems or risks associated with the specific use of the four cutting processes, to the exclusion of more general risks such as the use of compressed gases, high voltages and so on. These processes may give rise to atmospheric, noise or optical pollution. When water is used, it is also polluted.

10.1 Air pollution

Risk: pulmonary poisoning.

  • Oxycutting produces a lot of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), which is not a dangerous gas in itself, but because of the reduction in the oxygen content of the air it can cause. However, a large proportion of the cutting jet does not react with the iron and helps to reoxygenate the atmosphere.
