Overview

ABSTRACT

The addressing of therapeutic molecules to the diseased organ, tissue or cell is at time a major challenge for the treatment of human illnesses and in particular infectious, cancerous or of a genetic origin. As early as the beginning of the XXth century, the scholar Paul Ehrlich was dreaming of the "magic bullet" which could deliver a medicine in a specific way to its site of action. His dream has almost come true due to the development of nanotechnologies which offer the concept of vectorization of medicines, so called Nanomedicines.

 INTRODUCTION

Addressing therapeutic molecules to the right organ, tissue or cell is a major challenge in the treatment of human diseases, particularly infectious, cancerous or genetic diseases. As early as the beginning of the twentieth century, the scientist Paul Ehrlich was already dreaming of the "magic bullet" capable of delivering a drug specifically to its site of action. Today, Paul Ehrlich's dream is close to reality, thanks to the development of nanotechnologies that have made it possible to propose the concept of drug delivery ("Nanomedicines").

This dossier looks at the contribution of nanotechnologies to the design of new drugs for therapeutics and diagnostics (medical imaging).
