The reactor vessel contains the reactor core. It is an essential part of the second safety barrier [BN 3 820] .

Located in the central part of the reactor building, the :

  • contains the internal equipment that holds the fuel assemblies in position, guides the control clusters and ensures water circulation in the core;

  • is fitted with a cover that is opened by a fully automatic machine, enabling used fuel assemblies to be replaced by new ones during the reloading operation.
