5. Conclusion

With their obvious advantages (modernity, functionality), programmed systems are now widely used in nuclear power plants.

Since the techniques used to achieve the right level of quality have proved satisfactory, they will be continued, with a few changes, in the years to come.

In any case, programmed systems have won a significant battle that was not won at the outset: that of their possible qualification. Initial reluctance to qualify systems containing software, which is by nature complex, has been overcome. As in other sectors (avionics, railways, medical), programmed systems have demonstrated their contribution to safety.
