6.1 Actual performance assessment

As far as the principle of energy performance is concerned, depending on the cases of heat exchanger operation or malfunction, it may be easy to determine whether the exchanger or the system including it is operating correctly: the system is exchanging heat, the endothermic chemical transformation process is being carried out, the plant is generating electricity, etc. However, it may be more complicated to quantify the performance level of processes and exchangers properly during their operation: what cold temperature is achieved?
