3. Heat storage

Heat is a sizeable part of energy consumption. It represents just over half of the final energy consumption in France. The building sector consumes more than 40 % of the final energy including 2/3 in residential. This sector emits nearly 30 % of CO 2 emissions, essentially due to heating which contributes approximately 70 % of these emissions. Reducing the consumption of fossil fuels in this sector by managing heat consumption better is therefore a major objective. Heat storage is one of the elements in achieving this. Heat pumps are often used in heat storage, allowing excellent power efficiency.
