5. Conclusion

The benefits of misting applied to air-cooled condensers in refrigeration machines have been demonstrated. A number of observations can be made following analysis of the trends given by the "semi-local" model developed and the experimental results obtained describing heat and mass transfer phenomena during misting.

– Four key parameters govern misting performance: injected water flow rate, jet characteristics (droplet diameter, density and distribution), capture rate and exchanger surface wetting rate. Various modeling and experimental tools are available to determine these parameters.

– The simulation results presented in this study show the presence of optimums, particularly for the injected water flow rate. A strong coupling between parameters was also observed; its quantification requires experimental characterization.
