2. Magnetocaloric effect
The magnetocaloric EMC effect involves the heating and subsequent cooling of a magnetocaloric material that has been successively magnetized and demagnetized. It is the result of the change in entropy of the material due to couplings between magnetic moments and the atomic lattice under the action of an external magnetic field. It is measured by a temperature difference ΔT.
The application of a magnetic field aligns the magnetic moments, creating a form of order in the solid (magnetocaloric material).
This transition from a disordered magnetic state to an ordered state is accompanied by an increase in the intensity of atomic vibrations, raising the temperature T in the material.
