6. National standards in other countries

In the United States, several professional organizations are involved in standardization:

  • ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers) has published the latest revisions to ASHRAE 34 and ASHRAE 15 in 2022. Standard 34 describes an abbreviated way of naming refrigerants and assigns safety classifications based on toxicity and flammability data, while Standard 15 establishes operating procedures for equipment and systems when using these refrigerants. This organization has also published ASHRAE 111 (2008) on air conditioning;

  • The AHRI (Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute) is working with French specialists to revise the American standard on refrigerant recovery and recycling, and has already published electrical standards such as ARI 110 (2024) on voltage...
