2. Application to SOFCs

The methodology described for PEMFCs can be applied to SOFCs. A full presentation of the model and results is beyond the scope of this article, but a few key points can be briefly outlined. Modeling transport phenomena is simpler because water movement is less complex for two reasons. Given the temperature conditions, water remains in a gaseous state, so evaporation/condensation phenomena do not occur. Furthermore, water does not migrate from one electrode to the other. The anode/cathode coupling induced by this connection does not exist.

Unlike in the case of PEMFCs, there is no internal cooling circuit for the fuel cell. It is essential to take into account the enclosure in which the fuel cell is placed.
