3. Semi-finished reinforcement products: production and uses

Carbon fibers are mainly used in composite materials. It is clear, however, that appropriate resins must be used to optimize the use of carbon fibers. Several reinforcement processes have emerged over the last ten years. The main ones use carbon fibers directly in the form of continuous yarns, while others use a more or less sophisticated semi-finished product, such as dry fabrics, prepreg fabrics or pultruded products.

3.1 Dry fibers

Carbon fiber is produced in the form of very long continuous fibers. It is deposited and wound regularly around a mandrel. The weight of the spools depends on the type of fiber.
