Overview

ABSTRACT

Precast concrete products come in a very wide range with many and varied applications. Building (walls and floors) and civil engineering (sanitation, public works, road and urban development) represent a significant proportion of these applications. However, there are still many precast concrete products for specific uses such as frames (columns and beams), flues, tiles or stairs.

This article presents these products in detail, through their performances and their implementation

AUTHOR

 INTRODUCTION

The first prefabricated concrete products appeared in the second half of the 19th century when reinforced concrete began to develop rapidly. It was not until a century later that the first factories were built to mass-produce these products. Production equipment was specially developed and installed in these factories. Thus, a new industrial era was dawning for the construction sector.

Technological progress has greatly contributed to automating and improving the reliability of production methods, making it possible today to manufacture high-quality products with consistent and guaranteed characteristics. At the same time, national and European standards have been developed to evaluate the performance of concrete products according to their uses.

Concrete products now cover all residential and commercial uses in the living environment and meet environmental and public space requirements for sustainable land use planning. Resistant, with guaranteed performance and easy to use, concrete products enable rapid, economical and sustainable construction.

The rest of this article presents concrete products designed for multiple uses: residential, commercial, industrial, retail, logistics, agriculture, etc. They include a wide range of products, some of which are detailed below.
