2. Mechanical properties of BPR

The mechanical properties of non-heat-treated BPR differ from those of heat-treated BPR. Without (or before) heat treatment, properties evolve as cement hydration progresses, as with conventional concretes. They are then characterized by their value at 28 days. After heat treatment, material properties are stable over time and can be characterized by a single value.

2.1 Compressive strength

The compressive strength of BPR is measured on cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 70 mm and a height of 140 mm, both faces of which have been ground beforehand. This grinding operation is essential to obtain perfect parallelism of the faces, avoid any parasitic bending and reduce the standard deviation of the tests.
