5. Vertical flow planted filters

5.1 Filtration using materials and plants: principle

Vertical flow planted filters (Figures 10 and 11 ) are wastewater treatment systems consisting of specially designed pits, the base of which is made impermeable. These pits are filled with different layers of gravel and sand, with grain sizes varying according to the characteristics of the wastewater to be treated.
