Overview

ABSTRACT

This article concerning embankment beds in compressible valleys more specifically details soil consolidation attitudes and the instrumentation needed to follow up and verify this consolidation. Intervening factors, different techniques, choices of consolidation methods, and a description of the most common attitudes are also aspects touched upon. The instrumentation is then discussed along with interstitial pressure measurement of vertical shifting (compaction) and horizontal shifting.

 INTRODUCTION

In the , we have summarized the main phenomena encountered in the crossing of compressible valleys, the nature of the potential disorders they may cause and the consequences on the structures to be prevented, as well as the main families of soils at risk. We have described the reconnaissance operations and tests to be envisaged and carried out to determine the constructive provisions.

This dossier completes our presentation on embankment foundations in compressible valleys. It covers the actual soil consolidation arrangements and the instrumentation needed to monitor and verify consolidation.

As with the , this presentation is based on elements of a specific, practical approach, as implemented in the earthworks sector, particularly in the choice of consolidation methods.
