2. Adaptation of safety rules and special cases of application of the regulations

2.1 Procedure for adapting safety rules (Order of October 10, 2005 (GN4))

The measures taken in application of article R. 123-13 of the French Construction and Housing Code may not have the effect of reducing the level of personal safety.

The building permit or work authorization must mention the exceptional provisions approved by the competent authority.

A written request must be submitted for each proposed mitigation measure, setting out the reasons for the reductions requested and, where applicable, the measures required to compensate for them.

Mitigations can relate to the fire behavior of materials and construction elements, and compensations can include additional means of escape.
