 INTRODUCTION

Unlike metal leg scaffolding, rolling scaffolding is a self-standing, movable structure with one or more working decks, its own means of access and guardrails. They are moved by wheels (at least two) fitted with a locking system. Their dimensions are defined when they are designed, and cannot be adapted to the configuration of the site. Care should therefore be taken when selecting them, depending on the height and floor surface, as well as the permissible loads.

Mobile scaffolding must comply with specific rules of use and requirements. Erecting scaffolding requires a study of the terrain, the proximity of power lines, and the mandatory presence of assembly and operating instructions. Scaffolding is erected level by level, with a floor, guardrail and skirting board for each level, without compromising on the protection of the erectors. Of course, a series of tests must be carried out before the scaffolding is used, as well as additional checks after each incident.

Other, simpler structures, known as work platforms (PIR) or light platforms (PIRL), can be used at lower heights and through simple doorways. They feature two wheels which can be mounted on springs that compress when a step is climbed, the platform then resting on four feet. These lightweight structures are designed to eliminate risky situations responsible for over 20% of fatal falls.
