1. History

Since the dawn of time, the use of scaffolding (originally called "échafaud", an alteration of the word "ladder") has been linked to the construction of buildings. If the word scaffold is associated with torture, the word scaffolding is linked to the world of construction.

Traces of scaffolding can be found in Egyptian constructions, with floors fixed on one side to the building and on the other to uprights. In Antiquity and the Middle Ages, scaffolding also became a war machine: mounted on wheels, it could be used to cross a wall. The builder's scaffold is made up of wooden logs planted in the ground, to which horizontal elements are attached by ropes, and on which planks are placed.
