3. Conclusion

Lightweight aggregates offer a wide range of adaptable solutions for today's modern construction requirements. Their diversity, whether of mineral, vegetable or synthetic origin, means they can meet specific needs in terms of structural lightening, thermal and acoustic insulation, while helping to reduce the environmental impact of buildings.

While some materials, such as expanded clay or expanded polystyrene, already have a long history of use and are well known, others, more recent or under development, such as plant aggregates or expanded glass, open up new perspectives in the search for ecological, high-performance materials. However, each type of aggregate has its own unique characteristics, with advantages and limitations that need to be carefully assessed in relation to the intended applications.
