1. A long and continuous evolution

The electric vehicle appeared in the early days of the automobile, at the end of the 19th century, alongside steam and petroleum-powered cars in equal measure. It was associated with a recharging system limited by the technology of the time, as illustrated in figure 1 . Some of these early vehicles had a 500 kg lead battery, with a maximum speed of 10 km/h and a range of 100 km.
