3. Pricing principles

Many factors can affect the pricing of electricity in a country. That's why no two countries in the world have adopted exactly the same system for charging consumers for the electricity they use. Not only economic, but also social and political influences come into play in any pricing scheme.

3.1 Influence of economic factors

A study of electricity pricing in various countries shows that the degree of complexity depends very much on the level of development of the country in question. Sophisticated pricing requires the use of more complex metering equipment, qualified personnel to implement it, and consumers capable of understanding and applying it to their advantage.
