4. Conclusion

Low-voltage surge arrester components are constantly evolving, both in form and characteristics, to meet the demands of surge arrester manufacturers. Most of the time, however, the aim is to provide better energy resistance, whereas the current level of resistance is more than sufficient for the needs encountered in the field. Instead, priority should be given to the level of protection and the end-of-life of components, and therefore of arresters. Knowledge of networks is sufficient to select arresters, and the risk analysis approach enables arresters to be positioned where they are needed, with the necessary characteristics. However, this approach is only justified for complex or sensitive sites such as data centers, or to protect equipment important to the safety of the industrial site.
