 INTRODUCTION

This article focuses on examples of industrial, electrical and electronic protection.

First, we'll look at the components to be used in the four cases of electrical disturbance considered above (see article on Disturbance origin). In each case, the principles of protection are explained and responses to the disturbance are recommended.

In the second part, we'll see that protection against slower disturbances than the first four cases studied is based on thermistors.

Finally, special areas of protection will be detailed: means of transport (motor vehicles, electric rail traction, avionics), communications (telephony, radio networks), IT and broadband communications.

The examples given in this article show that optimum efficiency usually requires a combination of different means.
