8. Operating principle of an HVDC-VSC connection connected to an isolated network (wind farm, remote area)
A schematic diagram of the control system for an HVDC-VSC link connected to an isolated grid is provided in Figure 20 . When an HVDC-VSC link connects an isolated grid to the main grid, such as an offshore wind farm, the HVDC-VSC station provides a stabilized voltage to the isolated grid so that loads or generation units can connect to it. This allows wind turbines to synchronize to this voltage and then feed power into the grid.
