3. Dynamic operation

This section describes how MMC technology HVDC-VSC converters operate when a disturbance occurs on the external or internal electrical system of the converter station or when there is a change in setpoint and/or operating mode. This is referred to as dynamic behavior. Their dynamic behavior is dictated by their topology, the characteristics of their equipment, and their control system.

This section describes the typical behavior of converters when subjected to external disturbances (AC grid faults, changes in grid topology, etc.) or internal disturbances such as DC faults. It also describes the behavior of converters in normal operating mode, such as during the start-up phase.

The behavior of these converters is studied using electromagnetic transient simulation tools
