In an active antenna, the surface area is determined according to :
of the radiation pattern, both emitting and receiving ;
reception gain.
Emission gain alone is not decisive in calculating the surface area, because in all Systems, it is the product (Emission Gain × Emitted Power) that best characterizes the emission function; this is known as the EIRP (or equivalent isotropic radiated power) 2
