1. Motivations and objectives

1.1 Current architecture constraints

It seems difficult to evolve current architectures to take account of emerging needs requiring the integration of new functionalities. Typically, a service provider needs to integrate new functions on a regular basis, either to offer innovative services or to upgrade existing ones, usually by deploying dedicated equipment. This integration involves updating the network topology, studying interactions with existing functions and equipment, and updating routing configurations. Similarly, the removal or replacement of an existing function (or piece of equipment) leads to a similar problem, characterized by a lack of flexibility and consequent engineering work.
