3. Conclusion

ONS is based on a simple mechanism for converting object identifiers, and is positioned as an essential component of tomorrow's Internet infrastructure. However, we have seen that governance and security concerns remain to be resolved. In addition, similar object naming systems are being studied by other organizations, such as ISO (International Organization for Standardization). It has not yet been specified, for example, how to integrate code types other than those of the GS1 System into the ONS. The adoption of open, common standards for identifying and naming objects is probably one of the challenges of the "Internet of Things", and certainly one of the key factors in its success, just as the adoption of the IP protocol was for the Internet.
