5. 802.11ah protocol performance

HaLow Wi-Fi protocol transmissions can be characterized and modeled by taking into account encoding, encapsulation and media access processes. 802.11ah equipment continuously adapts its transmission parameters to the quality of the communication channel. To do this, it measures the received power level, the signal-to-noise ratio and the Packet Error Rate (PER). These measurements are indexed to a combination of parameters, selected from ten MCS, two guard intervals, five bandwidths and a maximum of four space-time streams.

The standard does not define precise selection rules for transmission parameters. Implementation is left up to the manufacturer.
