1. Synoptic diagram of an "active" antenna

  • Depending on the systems that use it and the operating modes required, the active antenna can be a switched transmit/receive antenna, or a transmit or receive antenna only.

    Example

    Radars sequence transmission and reception periods, and can therefore use a switched antenna.

    In telecommunications systems, transmission and reception are often simultaneous, and are not compatible with a single active antenna: two separate antennas are required.

    It may also be the case that only the transmit or receive function is required locally.
