2. What is parallelism?

2.1 Intuitive approach to parallelism

It's the parallelism present in an application that enables several parts of that application to be executed simultaneously, using different hardware resources. The notions we are about to introduce are general: they concern both the parallelism used in single-processor and parallel architectures.

Example: To introduce the notion of parallelism, we will examine the following loop:
