Overview

ABSTRACT

The mass of available textual information, notably on the Web, requires automatic processing for the accurate analysis of such data. The technological or economic watch consists in searching, processing and diffusing useful information for companies. All watch methods applied to textual data use automatic language processing (ALP) and text mining. The use of knowledge from this domain such as conceptual classification is essential in order to optimize these tools.

 INTRODUCTION

The mass of textual information available, particularly on the Web, requires automatic processing for relevant data analysis. This is particularly useful for uncovering strategic information to anticipate and make decisions about socio-economic environments. The term "technology watch" is used to study the evolution of technical and scientific data (scientific articles, technological patents, etc.). A growing area of intelligence is business intelligence. This involves researching, processing and disseminating information that is useful to the company. Business intelligence includes, in particular, competitive and market intelligence. All of these monitoring methods applied to textual data make use of the NLP (automatic language processing) and text mining systems described here. To make these tools more effective, the use of domain knowledge such as conceptual classifications is essential. In particular, we'll be looking at how Web resources can help in the automatic or semi-automatic construction of conceptual classifications.
