3. Supercritical water gasification: utilization of biomass and waste

3.1 Various types of biomass

Given that the process operates under pressurized water, it is primarily suited for biomass that is already highly moist, which sometimes needs to be diluted to achieve acceptable mass concentrations at the process inlet. Some types of biomass can be considered “high-quality,” meaning they serve as a direct source of raw material, while others may consist of agricultural or industrial waste. Among high-quality biomass, microalgae—which have a high moisture content and are attracting significant interest—are of particular note.
