2.1 Filtration pressure

In the case of filtration on a support, as in the case of depth filtration, it is necessary to supply a certain amount of energy to the suspension to enable it to pass through the filter: when a filter in the mass becomes clogged, its resistance to flow increases, and the same applies when the thickness of the cake increases in the case of filtration on a support.

Since pressure is nothing other than fluid energy per unit volume, there must be a positive pressure difference (henceforth referred to simply as pressure) between upstream and downstream of the filter element.
