1. Notions of separation efficiency and productivity

PSA purification processes are generally fed with at least two different gaseous compounds, one of which is considered to be the gas to be produced.

Whether it's the most adsorbable gas or the least adsorbable gas, the separation efficiency of a PSA unit for compound i is defined by the equation (figure 1 ):
