4. Conclusion

As with any complex system, it is virtually impossible to predict which formulation or strategy should be used to solve a foaming problem. Indeed, the issue is complicated by the fact that, in a given application, operating conditions contribute to the formation and persistence of foam.

However, based on knowledge of the factors responsible for foam formation and stability, combined with the various strategies available to destroy it, it is often possible to develop formulations that provide good control of foams or their damaging effects. Of course, the silicone antifoams on the market are remarkably effective at very low concentrations.
