4. Conclusion
As with any complex system, it is virtually impossible to predict which formulation or strategy should be used to solve a foaming problem. Indeed, the issue is complicated by the fact that, in a given application, operating conditions contribute to the formation and persistence of foam.
However, based on knowledge of the factors responsible for foam formation and stability, combined with the various strategies available to destroy it, it is often possible to develop formulations that provide good control of foams or their damaging effects. Of course, the silicone antifoams on the market are remarkably effective at very low concentrations.
We are aware that this article does not provide a definitive overview of the situation. In particular, we have only touched briefly on product performance and environmental impact, which remains an ongoing...

Economic aspects
The defoamer market is both very large and highly segmented, and it's virtually impossible to obtain information on its precise size. There are too many producers and too many situations to deal with. The most recent European production figures are 12,000 tonnes a year of silicone oil-based antifoams and 18,000 tonnes a year of hydrocarbon-based antifoams.
Producers differ both in their orientations...
