3. Calculating characteristic quantities for infrared systems

Some of these quantities can be calculated from the system parameters. This is the case for noise-equivalent power and noise-equivalent temperature difference.

3.1 Calculation of noise equivalent illuminance (NEI)

The spectral illuminance at the system's entrance pupil produced by a source of spectral intensity dI / dλ located at distance d and contained within the IFOV Instantaneous Field of View is given by Bouguer's law, corrected by the spectral transmission of the atmosphere along the path tat(λ)  :
