Seismic bedrock
The seismic bedrock is the surface from which the seismic site effect develops. It generally presents a strong impedance contrast with the overlying soils.
Geotechnical substrate
The notion of geotechnical bedrock is relative and depends on the structure to be built. In practice, it is defined in studies as the surface below which the deformation generated by the structure is slight to negligible.
Radiation damping
Radiative damping is due to reflected waves carrying part of the energy away from the system towards infinity.
