6. Controlling gassing problems: degassing treatments
There are two possible methods for limiting the level of gassing in aluminum alloy baths. The first is to avoid dissolving hydrogen as much as possible, while the second is to eliminate it by appropriate treatment.
6.1 Preventive methods
They are always preferable to curative methods, even if they are not always sufficient. A heavily gassed alloy will generally be difficult to degas. This is because gassing, generally due to the reduction of water by the alloy, is also accompanied by oxidation.
