2. Steels for quenching after localized heating
The basic range of these steels is described in standard NF A 35-563.
It includes a certain number of steels which were included in the former NF A 35-552 standard, and refers to their basic definition, which appeared in this now cancelled standard. These were grades which, for the purposes of the treatment in question, all have a minimum carbon content equal to or greater than 0.34%:
XC 42 – H1 and H2 ;
XC 48 – H1 and H2 ;
XC 55 – H1 and H2 ;
40 M 6 ;
38 and 42 C 2 ;
38 and 42 C 4 ;
38 and 42 CD 4 ;
50 CV 4 ;
