4. Preheating the ladle

In addition to good insulation and the installation of a cover, preheating the lining limits the transfer of energy from the liquid metal to the lining.

Whether the refractory lining is new or already in use, it needs to store sufficient energy to ensure that the drop in temperature of the liquid metal contained in the ladle is as small as possible. This is the role of the burner fitted to a ladle heater.

4.1 Burner

The gas burner has several functions:

  • distribute the fuel (gas) and combustive agent (air) in defined proportions;

  • homogeneous mixing of gas and air before or during combustion;
