4. Conclusion: continuous progress

As we have seen, all the parameters involved in cutting are undergoing rapid change.

On the one hand, machines can achieve high cutting speeds, while at the same time integrating more and more functions and reducing downtime thanks to digital controls.

On the other hand, carbide tools are undergoing significant development, with constantly improving performance. Advances in chip-breaker geometries enable better chip control, while improved substrates and coatings ensure that these tools can be used at high speeds.

Finally, in addition to the traditional ways of improving machinability, we have added oxide control. This new approach has the enormous advantage of not degrading any of the material's other properties, and of being synergistic with the traditional approach of sulfur addition.
