Since then, induction furnaces have gone from strength to strength, and now account for 26% of French cast steel production. These furnaces are defined by the frequency of the electric current used (50 to 10,000 Hz), the installed power (up to 1.2 MW/t) and their capacity, which can exceed 100 t liquid. As far as French steel foundries are concerned, the furnaces currently installed are of a more modest size, with capacities ranging from a few kilograms to around fifteen tonnes, while their specific power varies widely.
