2. Cold spray technologies

2.1 High-pressure and low-pressure processes

The term cold spray is generic. Here, we refer to the names used, particularly in the industrial sector, for processes based on the principle described at the start of this article. On this basis, two main types of cold spray were developed in parallel: high-pressure and low-pressure, depending on whether the gas pressure is above or below one megapascal. It's easy to understand the subjectivity involved in this distinction, given the evolution of spray equipment: today's "low-pressure" may have been considered "high-pressure" yesterday. This can lead to confusion, with some people today introducing the so-called intermediate pressure range for this very reason.
