Overview

ABSTRACT

The Finex process is a fabrication process of liquid cast iron which uses the fusion reactor of the Corex process. It is based upon iron ore fines which are cheaper than calibrated minerals. Another difference is that the Finex process replaces the former shaft furnace with reactors for the preheating and reduction of the fluidized iron ore fines. Unlike many other methods, the Finex process has been rapidly implemented in the industry. This article presents the evolution of its development due to the successful cooperation between Siemens VAI, and the steel producer Posco before proceeding to describing the current situation and the prospects for the future.

 INTRODUCTION

As mentioned in the article [M 7 550] , this process has been developed on the basis of the COREX process (see article [M 7 555] ) by a cooperation between Siemens VAI and the major Korean steelmaker Posco.

However, unlike many other methods, the FINEX process has very quickly reached the industrial stage, which is why we've devoted this article to it, reviewing the history of this development before describing the current situation.
