7. Gallium recovery processes

  • By far the most abundant source of gallium is bauxite, whose Bayer process liquors have gallium concentrations that can sometimes exceed 200 mg/L.

  • The second source is electrolytic zinc residues.

  • The third source is fly ash produced by coal combustion.

    In all three cases, treatment is essentially hydrometallurgical.
