If the processes envisaged, such as the use of synthetic slags or the injection of treatment agents, are to be effective, it is essential to avoid the entrainment of refining slag from the converter into the ladle. Solving this problem has given rise to a great deal of research: in the laboratory on cold models and, under industrial conditions, the testing of more or less ingenious devices.
