6.1 Corrosion in seawater
Titanium is highly resistant in seawater, with virtually no corrosion rate (< 0.01 mm/year) up to over 200°C; erosion problems only occur above a fluid velocity of 8 m/sec or in the presence of sand, and titanium presents no problems in the event of cavitation. It is therefore the material of choice for seawater heat exchangers and all equipment that has to withstand a marine environment. A classification of materials is given in Table 4 of
