Reinforcement and matrix are combined during the impregnation operation, which depends on the reinforcement used.

3.1 Short-fibre parts

Impregnation with a solution of phenolic resin diluted or undiluted in a solvent such as water, alcohol or ketone, and which may contain fillers, can be carried out :

  • or directly on fibers ranging in length from a few millimeters to a few centimeters; a mixing operation ensures homogeneous impregnation;

  • or on fibers several hundred meters long, which are then cut to the desired length.
