 INTRODUCTION

This dossier reviews the current state of research into the most promising magnetocaloric materials for refrigeration. After a first part devoted to the background to this research, a more detailed description of the magnetocaloric effect and its experimental determination are dealt with in a second part. The third, and most important, part presents the properties and performance of the various compounds we are interested in because of their high performance. Availability and implementation are briefly discussed in the fourth section. Finally, existing refrigeration systems are barely sketched in the fifth section.
